The Dean Forest Railway Society is very pleased that our wonderful volunteers have been recognised for their amazing contribution, by being one of three 'runners up' in the Forest Voluntary Action Forum's 'Voluntary Group of the Year Awards' for 2021. We are delighted to be recognised in these awards, particularly since they are voted for by members of the local public!

Our volunteers are absolutely vital and perform the vast majority of roles at the Dean Forest Railway, alongside a handful of paid staff. From restoration and maintenance of the locomotives and rolling stock based at the railway, keeping our track, signals and lineside in top condition, to driving trains, operating signal boxes, selling tickets and many other roles, volunteers keep our railway operating and help to preserve the Forest's railway heritage and history for present and future generations. We have opportunities for everyone, including our Young Volunteers' Group for under 16s.

Volunteering can help you learn new skills, boost your CV, make new friends and perhaps take up healthy outdoor activities like our Permanent Way team shown in the photograph.
